Mary of Egypt was a young teenaged runaway in late 4th century Alexandria. She ended up as many teenaged runaways do in every age- prostituting herself to survive. After joining up with some pilgrims to Jerusalem she had a spiritual vision which changed her life and spent the rest of her days in prayer in the desert.
